La plupart des voyages au Vietnam commencent où se terminent à Hanoï
En « voyage organisé » les deux premières fois au Vietnam et à Hanoï nous avons suivi un guide pour une visite de la vieille ville en cyclo pousse à travers le vieux quartier et ses rues aux 36 corporations,

De cette première approche je ne garde pas un souvenir impérissable, nous avons nous été trop vite, J'ai cependant en mémoire la couleur ocre des bâtiments coloniaux, la somptuosité de certains temples et la vie grouillante du vieux quartier que j'aurais aimé parcourir, nous reviendrons!
Lors d'un troisième et quatrième voyage à Hanoï, bien décidés à en voir plus, nous logerons près de la cathédrale ou dans le vieux quartier et plan en main nous découvrirons enfin la ville en prenant le temps, nous y consacrerons presque une semaine,
C'est à pied qu'il faut se déplacer, parcourir toutes les rues, goûter aux mets proposés dans les restaurants de rue et aller plus loin dans la découverte,
La visite de la vieille ville au 36 rues prend bien la journée, il faut compter une dizaine de kilomètres,
Un jour supplémentaire sera consacré aux temples et vielles maisons d’Hanoï,
En moto taxi nous nous écarterons du centre pour de nouvelles découvertes, le quartier français, le lac de l'ouest, le pont Paul Doumer, nous irons aussi jusqu’à Le Mat village des serpents,
