Je me souviens, comme si cela datait d'hier, de mon premier jour de rentrée à l'école. Ce soir-là, j' (avoir) droit à un dîner de prince. On me (servir) une grande tranche de viande. Au dessert, il y avait des bananes, des pommes et des oranges. C'est alors que je (comprendre) que quelque chose de grave se préparait. Ma mère me (faire) prendre un bain. Après, elle me (mettre) au lit. Pourtant, je ne parvins pas à fermer les yeux car j'attendais avec impatience le lever du jour, en pensant aux habits neufs, aux confiseries qu'on m'achèterait le lendemain.





Au soleil levant, ma mère (venir) me secouer, inhabituellement, avec douceur. Après le petit déjeuner, elle me (prendre) par la main et elle me (dire) que nous allions à l'école. Je commençais à pleurer et à me débattre. Quand nous y (arriver), je (voir) des d'enfants devant le portail. Les plus jeunes étaient accompagnés de leurs parents. Il y avait un bourdonnement de ruche. Les cris des marchands de friandises emplissaient la place. On aurait dit un souk. Soudain, une sonnette stridente me (tirer) violemment de mes rêveries.
