Une autre étude américaine a étudié les effets des sous-produits (pollen, feuilles, épis) émis par les champs de maïs Bt sur l’écosystème aquatique de douze rivières de l’Etats d’Indiana.
L’étude constate que les déchets agricoles provenant de maïs Bt infiltrent les cours d’eau avoisinants les champs de maïs et sont ensuite ingérés par les insectes adaptés à la vie dans ces eaux, les trichoptères, qui sont des proies importantes des prédateurs aquatiques et riverains.
