Une étude a été menée pour analyser l’étendue des déchets de maïs transgénique ainsi que la présence de la protéine Cry1Ab dans 217 sites de cours d’eau (20) dans le middle ouest américain.
Les résultats montrent que
∙ 86% des sites étudiés contiennent des feuilles de maïs, des épis, des tiges,
∙ 13% des sites analysés contiennent, six mois après la saison de la récolte, des quantités de la protéine Cry1Ab dans les déchets de maïs Bt,
∙ 23 % des sites analysés contiennent des traces de la protéine Cry1Ab dissoute directement dans l’eau.
